Caring For Your Earth Elements Jewellery

Updated: Dec 7, 2023

Purchasing Earth Elements jewellery for yourself or a loved one is meant to be a special experience. It is a way of aligning with your intentions, restoring your energy, and offering a treasured gift of self-care.

When you purchase a necklace, mala beads, or bracelets, it's important to take good care of your pieces. When tended to with love, your jewellery will last for years to come.

Here are some tips on how to care for your Earth Elements jewellery:

Sterling Silver Crystal Necklaces:

Your necklace is delicate and it's important to be gentle with it. Always place your necklace on your body with caring hands; please do not not pull or yank at the chain or the crystal.

The chains are Italian sterling silver, and as with all silver jewellery, it will tarnish over time. Always keep your necklace in the small ziploc bag that it came in when its not in use. Keeping the clasp in between the zipper will help to keep the chain tangle-free as well.

If your chain could use a hand with getting its sparkle back, any type of sterling silver cleaner, or silver polishing cloth will work well.

If you prefer a more natural method of cleaning, here is a trick that I use to clean the chains:

Line a small bowl (one that can handle boiling water) with tinfoil. A cereal bowl works well for this.

Place your chain in the bowl (always make sure your crystal pendant is off!), and sprinkle some baking soda on top (enough to cover the chain almost completely).

Boil some tap water, and pour it over the chain (I fill up half the bowl) and watch the magic happen! Depending on how much tarnish there is, you may see bubbles and some black residue in your bowl. This is all good and means that the cleaning is happening. If your chain is very tarnished, you can place the handle of a wooden spoon in the bowl and move the chain around a bit to help the process.

Wait about 20 minutes for the water to cool off. Then, reach in, scoop out your chain, and give it a nice rinse under some tap water. Dry it off well with a paper towel, and voila! You have a clean, sparkly, shiny chain!

The leaf backing on your crystal necklace may also need some polishing up from time to time. A microfiber cloth works best for this. A gentle polish (with a dry microfibre cloth) regularly will help your pendant to keep its beautiful shine for years to come.

It's always ideal to wear your necklace on top of your clothing, and not next to your skin. If the leaf backing on your crystal comes into contact with recently applied lotions, oils, sunscreen, sweat, or water, it can deeply tarnish and eventually lose its colour. Keeping it away from your skin will keep your necklace in pristine condition.

Always lean on the side of extra care, and do not wear your necklace during yoga, any type of exercise, or to bed. Do your best to not get your necklace wet as well.

108 Mala Beads:

Like the sterling silver necklaces, your mala is delicate and it's important to be gentle with it. Place your mala on your body with caring hands; please do not pull or yank at it.

The same goes if you are using it for mala meditation. Try not to pull on the beads as you count your mantras, but simply touch each bead gently as you make your way around your mala.

Your mala can be worn inside or outside of your clothing. It's normal for the rudraksha seeds to absorb the natural oils on your body, and as they do this, they will darken over time. There is a belief that their energy becomes more powerful as they darken and mingle with your energy. Please do not wear your mala after applying perfume, lotion or essential oils on your body, as this can cause the crystals and the spacer beads to discolour.

Do your best to not get your mala wet. If a little water comes into contact with it, it's okay, just let it dry out as soon as possible.

Please do not lay your mala on a salt lamp or any type of lamp or heat source, as it will weaken the string and cause it to break.

Always lean on the side of extra care, and do not wear your mala during yoga, any type of exercise, or to bed.

Bracelets:

Like the necklaces and 108 bead malas, your bracelets are delicate and it's important to be gentle with them. Place your bracelets on your wrists with caring hands; do your best to not pull, stretch, or yank at them.

Please do not wear your bracelets in the shower or while swimming. Try to keep your bracelets up a bit higher on your wrists while handwashing, or remove them altogether. If your bracelets get a little wet from handwashing, that's okay.

Please do not wear your bracelets after applying perfume, lotion, or essential oils on your wrists, as this can cause your beautiful crystals to discolour.

If you have purchased bracelets with rudraksha seeds, please note that it's normal for the rudraksha seeds to absorb the natural oils on your body, and as they do this, they will darken over time. Their energy will become more powerful as they darken and mingle with your own.

Always lean on the side of extra care, and do not wear your bracelets during yoga, any type of exercise, or to bed.

Clearing the energy of your jewellery:

Now that you know how to physically care for your jewellery, let's talk about how to energetically care for them.

If you are using your jewellery for deep healing, or if you are wearing them every day, it's a good idea to cleanse them daily. If you are using your pieces occassionally, cleansing them once a week, or once a month is sufficient.

You can use sound healing (tingshas, or a singing bowl work well for this), sage, palo santo, or sweetgrass to clear your jewellery.

If you are using a singing bowl, place your jewellery next to your singing bowl. Ring your bowl so that there is a good reverberation. Feel the vibration of the singing bowl moving into your jewellery. Once the sound has subsided, your jewellery has been cleansed.

If you are using tingshas, ring them over your jewellery three times. Again, feel the vibration of the tingshas moving into your jewellery, and the cleansing taking place.

When using sage, palo santo, or sweetgrass, simply light your herb of choice, so that you have a good trail of smoke going. Move your jewellery through the smoke a few times and feel the energy of it becoming lighter and more clear. A minute or two of this mindful practice will cleanse your jewellery.

If you would like to energize your jewellery more, you can place it in the light of a Full or New Moon. The Full Moon energy is considered to be more healing, and the New Moon, more cleansing. Depending on your intentions, you may like to choose one or the other, or both.

When using moonlight to energize your jewellery, always keep your pieces inside your home, on a windowsill, so they aren't exposed to weather conditions outside.

Caring for your jewellery is meant to be a sacred practice, and one that can help you connect more deeply with your intentions and with yourself. I hope these tips help you develop a wonderful relationship with your jewellery
