5 Ways To Love Yourself More This Valentine's Day

Updated: Feb 5

Valentine's Day is such a wonderful holiday. I love that there is a day dedicated to love; love for yourself, your friends, your family, and (if you are in a relationship), your sweetheart.

I am a firm believer that the best way to love others is to love yourself first. When you offer yourself love, kindness, and care on a daily basis, you are filled up, and you naturally extend that love to those around you.

Valentine's Day can be a very sweet reminder of the importance of reconnecting to the love within you. There is always a powerful Stream of pure, Divine Love flowing to you, and this day can be a gentle nudge to enjoy some self-care so you can feel that Love more fully.

Below are a few suggestions on how you can offer yourself some wonderful TLC this Valentine's Day. Since Valentine's falls on a Wednesday this year, you may feel guided to begin the self-love celebrations the weekend before, or in the days leading up to February 14th as well.

A woman is practicing yoga in a bright room. She is wearing pink and there is a Buddha and a piece of square mandala artwork behind her.

Practice yoga.

Yoga is so good for the body, mind and Soul. Breathing deeply, stretching your body, and maybe even breaking a little sweat, can bring a sense of deep peace, calm, and clarity to your being.

Head out to a studio and practice with your favourite teacher. Or, if you feel like staying in, take an online class on your favourite platform. A local studio may even offer online classes as well.

Whatever you choose, plan for a class that's at least 25 minutes to an hour. That way, you'll get the most benefit from your practice, and that feeling of yoga bliss will stay with you for the rest of your day.

Place your favourite crystals on your body and rest.

Choose 3-4 of your favourite crystals, place them on various parts of your body, and lay down for awhile. Breathe deeply and let your mind settle. You can set a timer for 20-45 minutes in case you drift off into a nap.

Rose Quartz is always a lovely choice for crystal healing sessions, as is Amethyst, Clear Quartz, Citrine, Garnet, Carnelian, and Moonstone. You can place the crystals on their corresponding chakra points (for the crown chakra, set your crystal on your pillow, just above your head), or you can place them wherever you feel guided to.

A short crystal healing session works wonders, and will leave you feeling more balanced, uplifted and at peace.

A woman is sitting in a white soaker tub. There are candles, flowers, and crystals surrounding her.

Take a soothing bath.

Drawing a hot bath for yourself is such a sweet way to care for your mind and body. Dim the lights, place a few crystals around your tub or bathroom, and light some candles. You can listen to some gentle music as well.

Use your favourite bubble bath, or herbal bath soak. Put some essential oils in the water, or diffuse them in the bathroom. Enjoy the feeling of slipping into your bath, closing your eyes, breathing deeply, and letting your cares melt away.

Make your favourite meal.

What do you love to eat? What foods help you feel nourished? Make a meal that feels wonderful to you.

Whether it's your favourite vegetarian or vegan dish, a pot of whole wheat pasta, a juicy grass fed steak, or a comforting roast chicken, planning and cooking a meal for yourself can be a lovely way to spend some time.

Put on your favourite music or a podcast. Listen as you cook, dance if you feel like it, and enjoy the process of creating a delicious home cooked meal.

Paintbrushes and watercolour paints and a watercolour painting are laying on a white desk. A keyboard is visible in the upper background.

Try something new.

Is there something you've always wanted to try, but put it off for one reason or another?

Maybe it's learning how to knit or crochet, taking an online (or in person) art class, spending the day at the spa, or something more adventurous, like sky diving!

Give yourself permission to do something new and special for yourself. Treating yourself to those things that make you feel excited about life is so healthy. And it's a wonderful way to express your love for yourself too.

I hope these suggestions will give you some inspiration on how you can love yourself more this Valentine's Day. And perhaps they will create a ripple effect in your life, and encourage you to make time for more self-care and self-love.

Remember that everyone in your world benefits when you are filled up. Take the time to nourish and replenish your energy. That way, you'll show up as the best version of yourself, and you'll be able to love those in your life more fully too.

Happy Valentine's Day!
